how do i fix this problem the code says its in diagnostic mode

 

Start the engine.

That code means, the distributor isn't putting out pulses, which is to say, the engine isn't running.

Why do you think you should fix it?

 

maybe you should tell me why i should fix it. not everyone is lucky enough to be shown how to do things,some have to learn on our own,but thank you for your help it was greatly appreciated.

 

I have nothing I can tell you about why you should fix it.

I'm asking you, why do YOU think YOU should fix it? Tell us what's going on... is the Check Engine light on? Does the car not run right? etc. etc. etc.

Instead of talking about how to kill the alligators, talk about the swamp you're trying to drain; or even, go one level higher, and tell us about the bridge you want to build over the swamp that makes you think you need to kill the alligators.

 

that is good advice,thank you for that,,the car runs fine at idle but when you put it in gear and give it gas it bogs and runs like crap like it has all kind of misfiring going on

 

Sounds like fuel delivery.

Have you changed the fuel filter?

 

i changed the filter and the pump and the injectors,rotary the cap,wires plugs and all the sensors and i made sure the injectors are for the 305,not 350,when i changed the pump i noticed the old pump didn't have the plastic housing around it,and i thought the camaro had the housing around the pump on the in tank pump.i dont know if that would make a difference or not,if it does do you know where i could get one? could it be the icm,the coil pick up and the icm are the 2 things i haven't changed yet, and the car ran fine yesterday and on the way home from work is when it started running like crap

 

Code 12 is start and end off codes to be shown. Light will continusally flash 12 with shorting 2 diagnostic terminals A and B. Remove shorting bar (paper clip) should go back to normal run mode. If you have real codes it will flash 12 three times and then each other code will flash three times, once its thru it will flash 12 agian three times, and repeat until grounding bar is removed. If you see code 12 flashed more than 3 times straight there are no trouble codes in ecm.

Do not change any parts till you know exactly what is going on with problem. Sometimes car will run poorly and have no codes or check engine light on. Even in 2017 OBII cars. I've been in GM dealerships since 79'. I have had bad new parts both from GM and after market. It just makes it harder to diagnose problems. I've also drag raced for some 15 years, when you only change one part or adjustment at a time then test. You know if it helped or hurt vehicle.
