My 305

All right I have a 305 that came out of a 1984 Trans Am. I do not own an F- Body, Howeer when i buy a car i am strongly considering buying a thirdgen. ( my parent won't let me buy a car until i graduate.) Any ways my goal is to get about 300-325 Horsepower out of my 305 by the way it's an LG4 i am pretty am confident that my goal is easily acheivable i wish to keep the engine NA. i have a budget of about $1000-1500 what should i do. i mean what kind of parts?

Welcome aboard,

To get the power you want, you'll need more money most likely. The LG4 is arguably(sp) the worst motor that the thirdgens had. You will need to get full exhaust headers back. I strongly recommend the Hooker cat-back, sound clips are in my sig. The full exhaust will run around $500. You'll need new heads. And you'll have to replace the peanut cam. By the time you add up the little things, like gaskets and such, or things breaking. I'm sure you'll be well over the $1000 mark.

you need a bigger budget....
vortec top end kit from scoggin d i c k ey $900 + with shipping
headers and exhaust $500 +
machine work to the heads since you have the low compression LG4 $100 +
cam & lifter kit $150 +
valve covers $20 used
a decent carb $250 used/rebuilt
$1900 is a better budget....

I can't believe it censors d i c k ey

I was thinking of getting new Heads and rplacing the bottom end of the engine. and currently i am not worried about th exhaust that will come when i get the car (mid January 2003). And for the carb, What CFM? 600 with vacuum secondaries? or 750 with Mechanical secondaries. an where can i find out about this Vortec Top end kit?

600->650CFM is more than enough.
