I have an 88camaro with the 5.7 and 18k on the odometer and when it has been sitting long enough to be considered "cold" it starts up faster than my DD. Now, when it sits for a few hours or less and is still "hot" it takes much longer to start. It cranks fast just wont catch. I would say it takes a max of 5 seconds to go. The car runs great other than that. It seems like it might be running rich, but after it runs for about 5-10 seconds the gas and small amount of smoke out of the exhaust stops.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what this could be?

On a side note, does anyone have any opinions of the venting gas caps? I've read mixed reviews/opinions on them.

The hard starting when warm is frequently a symptom of injectors or the fuel pressure regulator leaking down.

If your EVAP system is intact they is no need to install a venting gas cap. The tank pressure control will prevent it from drawing a vacuum and will regulate maximum tank pressure to a safe level.

Yes. Get some Bosch III's from Southbay Fuel Injectors. You won't regret it.

 

Thanks, I was only able to find the re-manufactured ones on that site. So I might be missing something. I did find them at Fuel Injector Connection.

Might order both replacement parts so this wouldnt have to be looked into further. Also this looks pretty intensive and may have to find a local pro to take care of this.

 

At Southbay they are rebuilt and flow matched for about 165

 

How's the quality for rebuilt ones? I wouldn't mind saving half of what brand new ones are.
