Hey guys i have a 82 camaro with a sbc 350 and a th350 and a holley carb but my car stalls when it gpes in to gear my idle is set at 1600 rpm for now to see if it would stop stalling but it didnt help a bit the car only stays running if i keep pumping the gas and hold it over 2000 rpm and help is appriciated

 

Any help guys?

 

I don't know much about carbs on Camaros but I think we could use more info, it idles fine? Does it only die when the car is warm (shifts into gear without stalling when cold?) Any vacuum leaks? How long has it been doing this and did u do any work before this started happening?

 

The car idles fine at 1300 because of my k12-600-4 comp cam set up or it will stall if the idle is lower than that and i checked for vaccum leaks and it doesnt have any and for the shifting when cold it doesnt stall only when its fully warm and the temp is at 210f and everything was fine till yesterday night that i was going to take it out for a drive

 

So no help from anybody?

 

Try giving us all your info, may even help to punctuate it out for us old guys.

We don't know type holley carb, intake, distributor, specs on cam (so we don't have to look it up?). I think the more time you help us to understand your problem, the more the guru's will be willing to help.

Some more questions, does the car stall when shifting into any gear? What exactly happens when the car stalls? anything out of the ordinary or does it just cut off and die?

 

Well its a rebuilt sbc 350 with a edelbrock eps intake and holley 650cmf carb a autozone mechanical distributor a new acdelco fuel pump a new edelbrock water pump new duralast alternator and a new cam whick the part number is a k12-600-4 comp cam

• it has a th350 transmission with a shift kit
• the car starts good and shifts in to gear perfect with no problem when cold but as soon as it warms up to 200 degrees it stalls the rpms go from 1600 down all the way to 0 then starts back up fine till i shift it in to gear again i hope this is enough info because thats all i got

 

That cam should idle below 1300, it is designed to give a lumpy idle but it will idle below 1300. That is your first issue.

Second tell us about your combo we cant help unless you give some info.

What parts were used to build your 350?
Is is a stock motor out of something or custom build?
Who did the work?
Has it every run well?
What distributor is in it?
What carb holley makes more than one?
What have you done to diagnose the issue?

 

Well i made it idke at 1600 because of that same problem that it kept stalling i thought that if i pumped up the rpm my car would stop stalling but that didnt work at all
the carb is a holley carburetor 80457 with electric choke
distributor pn BDLG-GM08
if more info is needed let me know

 

Well the engine i bought it rebuild sopposedly stocksaid the mechanic when i bought it he said it was a 4 bolt main block but that was all the info he gave me on it and to be honest i never really ran the car after i did this swap i just turn it on and drive it sometimes

 

Check power valve and idle mixture. I would also check the timing.

 

How would i do that if you dont mind explaining it to le im also new to carbs

 

Stock for what? The 82 camaro never had a 350 stock and they came in just about every car, truck and van chevy made. You should go back and ask him for a parts list so you can tune the car properly. Either way what is your timing?

 

Its stock for a 79 chevy c10 pick up and i went earlier and he said he put oem parts but that he doesnt remember what exactly and unfortunately it doesn't have a timing tab

 

A mechanic had suposedly tuned it by ear but i know its not right

 

Not to sound like a dick but your mechanic seems like an idiot. The timing is one of the most important aspects of a car. The tab being broken off is an ez fix and it should have been done when the motor was installed. You need to know the timing

Sounds almost like the electric choke is the only thing keeping the engine alive. Do you know what the idle speed is when the choke is off?

That stock engine could very well be a super low compression turd that really will hate that cam I would look into that too and maybe switch to a non hack mechanic.

 

Thats what i said plus he had already made it catch on fire to i just fixed that and i bought a timing tab from oreily but i havent had time to install it
