Keep in mind that this site is dedicated to third-generation GM F-Body vehicles, which includes the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird. The Buick 231 V-6 was only used in these vehicles in a turbocharged version, and not in the "Series II" version.

Please keep posts relevant to those models.

However, to answer the question directly, no, it cannot prevent engine operation IF the rest of the electrical system is intact.
