I can't put the starter back. HELP !
My first starter job became a nightmare today. The old one came out without trouble, then I connected the wires to the selenoid, and try to bolt in the new starter. ( It's a rebuilt one ) I spent one hour but no luck, when I got one bolt in the shim moved or the other bolt didn't line up. What is the trick ? Should I take the inspection cover off and try again ?

Sometimes the remans have a problem with the bolt holes, the casting itself is damaged and causes problems. When thats the case though, the bolts wont go all the way through the housing. Its probably just that you dont have the starter lined up right in relation to the block, its at a slight angle or something like that. Try tightening up one bolt most of the way and then put the other bolt in.
