How to start the car without ignition cylinder

My 88 has no igntion cylinder, i bought a new one and did everything right, but it doesnt fit, i was wondering if you could start the car withough the lock cylinder just temporarily.

You can move the switch by the rod that goes up to the lock cylinder, or reach down and move it at the switch. I have done that before

The ignition switch located on the top side of the steering column under the dash. Some 88s had vats though.
