If you're talking about a Gen I or Gen II LT1, they've been out of production for quite some time.
If you're talking about a Gen V LT1, they're about $10,000 plus countless other necessary parts and modifications that you'll need to put it in a third gen.

The original Gen1 LT1 was an early 70's carb'd performance engine.
The Gen2 LT1 was an early to mid 90's EFI engine.
Neither are currently sold new, and there's no real benefit to swapping in either of them if you came across one even for free.
The Gen4 LT1 is currently sold in Camaros and Corvettes (I believe) and I'd assume it's available as a crate engine. It would make a heck of an upgrade but there is a LOT of work needed to do this, as has been mentioned.
NONE of these ever came in a thirdgen F-body.
A stock/re-manufactured 305 or 350 originally from an 87 Iroc could probably be had for a bit under $2000 as a long block. You just put your intake and accessories back on it.

I definitely disagree. The 90s LT1 may be a redheaded stepchild, but it's still far better than what came from the 80s. Having driven many of both and owned a few I'd take an LT1 every single time.

Every new generation likes to berate the previous to feel better about themselves.
They’re all SBCs and have enough aftermarket to fix any issue, factual or fabricated.
