What is the sound of fuel pump stopping when car is idling?

Still tracking down a bogging problem with my 88 GTA.

I was idling it yesterday for about 3 minutes, then it started running rough, stuttering, then made a weird fluttering and clickety clack sound, and then died. Was that the fuel injectors clicking away with no gas to squeeze out?

I tried 3 more times to start it, and it wasn't firing at all, just cranking.

I let the car sit overnight and tried it again, and it started up on the first try, as though it had plenty of gas in the fuel rail already.

Just wondering if the fuel pump stopped on me yesterday.

I'll be getting a fuel pressure tester from Harbor Freight to check it, but just thought I'd ask first about the strange noises.

Thanks

get under there with a rubber mallet and beat on the fuel tank while someone cranks it, youll probably get a few sputters/fires and maybe even hear it whirr into life temporarily

a little bit ghetto but its effective

Verify if its fuel. My buddy had about the same problem with his 92 Trans am and it turned out to be the spark control module in the distributor. Once it heated up it wouldn't start back up. Put in a new delco one and its been running strong ever since

I like that. Maybe the spark control module has been causing my intermittent bogging problem too. Been bogging off and on for a few months. But it has always started up until this last incident. Maybe 2 different problems.

Is the spark control module also called an ignition control module? Just a small part with a short wire that clips on, and screws into the base of the distributor?
