Car stalls when stopping
I have an 86, 2.8L (new plugs, wires, cap, ignition coil, air filters, fuel pump, fluids).
When I'm driving on the highway and I come to a stop my car stalls, but if I'm driving in the city at lower speeds and come to a stop I'm ok (almost feels like it might stall but stays running). I am thinking maybe a timing problem? Any help or insights in to this problem? Thanks in advance.

I'd say start by checking for a vacuum leak, anywhere. Keep in mind, PCV and EGR are both controlled vacuum leaks.

Well, not stopping on the highway, but stop signs on county roads and the like.
I did a bit of research on vacuum leaks and I think you could be right because of other symptoms that my engine has that I figured were unrelated seem to also be symptoms of a vacuum leak. I'm going to check it out tomorrow. Thanks.
(although I'm still not sure why driving at a higher speed and stopping is different then driving at a lower speed and stopping)

Only thing i can think of is the amount of brake pressure that is applied.
When you hit the brakes, a valve opens up allowing atmosphere pressure into the near side (firewall side). The more you hit the brakes, the more you fill the near side up. When you let off, it bleeds the atmoshpere, vacuum is let back in to replace it. The only thing I can think of, is the amount of vacuum needed to restore (release the brakes). The harder you hit the brakes from higher speeds, the more vacuum is need to fill it back up compared to the lesser volume of the slower speeds.
That may be completely off base, but that's my idea.

Does the car shudder before it dies? The torque converter lock-up solenoid can cause this. It won't do it in the city because the TC won't lock up.
