Car stalling

i have a 1990 rs Camaro with a 305 tbi I’ve been adjusting the timing and I felt it was spot on so I plugged the est bypass back in tighten dis down put air cleaner back on started running like **** so I disconnected the est and it ran fine now if I take the air cleaner off and leave the est plugged in it runs fine too no stalling. My question is does having the air cleaner off affect the timing and if it doesn’t could there be a reason why the car runs like **** with the air cleaner on vs with it off?

Re: Car stalling

Been awhile since I timed mine. IIRC, disconnect the est, turn the car on, loosen the dis, set the timing and tighten the dis down, turn the car off, reconnect the est connector, erase the code set, start the car.

Re: Car stalling

When you say erase code set do you mean disconnect negative for 30 seconds for ecm to reset?

Re: Car stalling

Car is running smooth sounds better too idling without any issues sometimes it will just stall with no warning though at a stop light. Maybe a vacuum leak?

Re: Car stalling

When it stalls is it stumbling and dieing like it’s running out of gas or is it just shutting off like you just flicked a switch and boom it’s dead?? Could be the ignition control module. Could be a clogged fuel injector or the throttle plates closing too much (but you would notice that at idle also). The easiest place to start is to start the car and look down the throttle body and you should read almost a star-shaped pattern on the throttle plates of fuel from the injectors. That’s an easy 1 to see if the injectors are clogged.
