87 camaro purchase

I have found an 87 irocz camaro 5.0 super charged with 48,000. The interior is spotless like new. The exterior is rust free only peeling paint. This does get driven and has had some parts replaced. I’m just curious if seven grand is a high price? I do own another 87 camaro base model which 10 years ago I put a 350 in it. I was thinking if I bought this car could also swap engines. The shell and interior are way better then mine so that’s why I was thinking of ditching mine. What is everyone’s thoughts? Should I keep original if I was to buy?

A picture is worth a thousand words , and for this to be worth seven thousand is gonna take a LOT of pictures to even come close to making that determination . My gut feeling tells me it's a three or four thousand dollar car , tops , but like I said the pictures will fill in ALL the blanks .....

Re: 87 camaro purchase

I’m posting some photos so maybe I can get a better idea to what the price you guys might think that it’s worth. Does original owner make a car worth more at all? Is a 5.0 with super charge even worth it? I have seen prices start to go up a little but not sure if it will continue or maybe just a trend for now. I like the car I have even without the iroc badging or ground effects. I should just put more money into it. I mean the body isn’t that bad. Trying to talk my way out of purchasing a new toy.

Thank you

Re: 87 camaro purchase

Its an attractive LOOKING car.

I'm very leery of anybody else's boosted project. Did the owner install that boost on factory internals? You see where I'm going with this?

Even assuming that the internals aren't bent, you may not be happy with the limitations that your state will impose on you as the new owner of this.

Unless you can answer "yes" to each question.

Be always concerned about "that one cop" who decides you are not in compliance with the "used infrequently" condition. He rides off with your tags, and you get left on the side of the road with a summons, and a court date. Cop says he saw you twice at the Burger King in a week, and you lose.

How are you going to do THAT??? It's not "original" now; how can you"keep"?

What do you intend to do with it? That's pretty much the key to whether you should buy it, more than anything about the car itself.

That said, I wouldn't buy an otherwise totally stock car that somebody just jammed a blower onto, as that appears. Maybe even with the exh manifolds still on it. Especially not with all those fake hose dress-up crap things on there. Looks to me pretty much a poseur kind of a "build". (I use the word loosely...) Designed to ensnare those who are easily distracted by shiny things just off the path to wherever they are REALLY going.

Yep , just like I told him in post #2 , $3 or $4 K tops , and now seeing the pictures I'd be inclined to walk at anything over $3K .......

Re: 87 camaro purchase

The car might have been worth something if the Previous Owner kept it original.. 48k Miles, mint interior, just needs paint..

like others said above I’d be wary about the supercharger just being thrown on the stock motor like that (and probably getting pretty beat). That affects the price heavily to me.

For $7000 you should be able to get a pretty solid car that could maybe be a 20 footer but kept stock and well maintained.

For $10k you can find some pretty nice one/two owner survivor cars around still that might have 50-70k miles but lived in a garage and have minimal wear.

Get $15-20k and you can get lower mile all original garage queen cars. People that semi collected the car saving the documentation and never drove it in the winter/rain.

$20-30k you can get an overpriced car with under 10k miles from a Classic Dealer..

I’d say maybe $5k at most because it does look like the car is mostly there. It would cost you more to get it to the level of a car that’s already all there though.

Re: 87 camaro purchase

Car is worth maybe $3k. Paint is SHOT. That's a VERY old supercharger kit - dash **** boost retard? Reeaaaally now? I wouldn't pay more than $1k for that supercharger kit that is old as hens teeth and probably crapped out needing a rebuild - incidentally what brand is it and could you even get parts or a rebuild if needed? Who tuned it? What kind of power does it put down? Has it been on a dyno and where is the sheet? Could be a clapped out pile of steaming feces if it wasn't tuned properly and properly built.

You could get a stock one with peeling paint for $2k, and buy a brand new supercharger kit for $5k. I don't see this being worth $7k. Smoking. Crack.
