Icm relocation
What's up! to 3rd gen camaro fanatics. This will be my first post since, I usually find answers using the "search" tab. So this time I could not find much about relocating the icm but, I want to share what I did to relocate the icm in my camaro. Afew days ago I replaced the distributor in my 88 iroc and got a bit creative to relocate it outside the distributor cap. I'm perty sure it's self-explanatory with these pictures.

Re: Icm relocation
From what I see in your picture I believe you've actually compromised the ICM's cooling . When the ICM is properly bolted to the distributor with good thermal paste under it , the entire bottom metal surface of the ICM is able to transfer heat through the paste to the distributor body . Your bracket does not appear to be big enough to cover the entire bottom of the ICM meaning the ICM is gonna run hotter than it should , possibly to it's early demise .
You really wanna do your ICM a favor ? Either put it back in the distributor with good thermal compound (get it at your local computer supply store) , or cannibalize the CPU heatsink out of an old junk PC and mount your ICM to that , bonus points for setting up a little muffin fan to be blowing on it ....

Re: Icm relocation
Thanks for the bonus points orangebird. I did mount the icm on aluminum piece large enough to be able to screw the icm into, then I screwed that to the "L" shape metal piece. That's how then i got it mounted to the distributor. If this is a "no go" then I'm probably going to put it back in its original place. I just said to myself "maybe this way icm will live longer"

Re: Icm relocation
95ish mustangs have them mounted on a inner fender in a large aluminum finned heat sink.
I've thought about mounting one on a large heat sink then in a airbox in front of the air filter. Like inside a SLP firebird coldair box

Re: Icm relocation
Kind of like how they mounted the ICM on later models (S10 and 4th gens I think?) Always thought they made that change for the reason of the Distributer sometimes getting too much heat soak from the engine to keep the ICM properly cooled. Have considered doing something similar myself.
