Jet Performance Stage 2 Chip
Alright guys I’m new to this page and have been restoring a 1985 Iroc Z for the last year and a half. I’m hoping someone can help with this problem I am having, maybe someone else has had it. My car has the original 305 TPI motor in it, nothing has been done to the engine internals. I built a cold air intake using Spectre Performance intake parts from Autozone, I included the MAF in the intake that I pulled off of the original intake. I also build a 3” free flow exhaust system using a Pypes x pipe and headman headers with cherry bomb extremes. I was looking for a Performance chip at the time when I came across the Jet Performance Stage 2 chip and after reading reviews and the description I decided to buy one. I got the chip and installed it and the car started perfectly, it idled a little fast but I got the idle to come down. The problem I am having is that when I give the car throttle it completely cuts out. I have tried adjusting timing, and the TPS but nothing seems to be helping. I have checked for vacuum leaks and have plugged off all unused vacuum hoses. I contacted jet performance and they said it could be that there is some kind of update but they didn’t explain much about that. They said they would look into it but I haven’t heard from them in a little over a week. Hopefully I can figure something out or someone on here has an idea.

Re: Jet Performance Stage 2 Chip
Those chips are pretty worthless. Get a proper tune from any of the vendors that can do a custom chip to your needs. And all that intake plumbing is probably going to do nothing at all. That Spectre crap from Autozone is super cheap Chinese junk. The engine can't produce anywhere near enough power to need an intake other than the stock intake. That engine makes about 190 HP on a good day. The stock TPI setup is known to be capable of over 300 HP. So changing anything other than the 305 itself is a significant waste of effort.

Maybe you got a PROM for a 350. That would have the wrong injector size. Would definitely run like crap.
Problem is - you really can't get any support from a company like that. If you call, chances are you will not speak with anyone that has a clue about a car this old.
You need a custom chip that you know was burned properly for YOUR application.

I had one of these chips in my car when I bought it and didnt know until a couple years later. I needed the memory adapter so I took the chip off and saved what was on it (I posted it in an old thread somewhere). Comparing it to the stock chip, all the differences were that it advanced the timing at certain RPMs and delayed torque converter lockup.

Re: Jet Performance Stage 2 Chip
It's actually interesting to read this because I've had a similar issue where the car has no power. When I bought the car we were told it has a stage 2 chip in it. Been going nuts trying to figure out the issue, currently at an issue where it runs when the MAP sensor is out and barely even wants to start when it's in. Could the chip cause anything like this? Only difference is it's a 350 tpi, not a 305. Not sure if the chips change anything different or actually matter anymore in a 350 than a 305.

How does the car run with the stock original chip? If it runs better with the factory chip, put it back in.
Those aftermarket chips, for the most part, are a waste of money. You would be much better off getting someone to do a custom tune and chip for you, with your car on a dyno at his shop, then you know it will run properly.
I'd put that Jet chip on fleabay and get rid of it.
