Does a 1986 Lg4 V8 have a starter support?

The starter on my Camaro stopped working the other day and when I got under the cat to give it a whack I found a loose wire that was touching a bracket that was hanging down.

There is a hole on the bracket that fits over one of the bolts on the starter solenoid But I have never seen a support attach to a starter solenoid.

So is this bracket needed? Is it stock? Is it supposed to be attached to the starter or did the PO put it back incorrectly

I reattached and heat shrinked that wire and the starter is working again.

Thanks!
Ian

Yes, that bracket is stock, and while you may not absolutely "need" it, it is a very very good thing to have. The one starter bolt is supposed to be a stud, and then a nut holds the bracket to it.

Cool, thanks! I pulled it off for now just so it's not whacking the wires, but I will figure out what size nut it needs and put it back on.

I saw your earlier post about the wire. I'm pretty sure it was shorting on the loose bracket, I wasn't even getting a click when I tried to start it.

The sketchy butt connector was so loose on one side the wire pulled out easily. So it's soldered and heat shrinked now, I just didn't photograph it as I was in a hurry.

Next up is tightening the exhaust the PO installed. It has already come loose once!
