How Old Are You?
This is just another discussion i've been having with a few other people about seeing what age group like what kind of cars, mostly the old timers like the street rods, a middle aged like the muscle cars, just seeing how this poll turns out.

True. I used to live in the "expensive" area of town and there was rice-a-plenty. I moved to a more "rural" area. It's still in the same city, but we're alot further SE. And there are ALOT of muscle cars around, which is better than rice.
Im 17...and a big fan of american muscle cars...but of course my fav. is the fbody. Not too many people in my HS are into muscle cars...mostly ricers. Even my friends r ricers...except for one who has a camaro. I have a friend with a V6 stang who riced it out...lol. I do like some imports...such as the 3000GT's and Supras...but I hate the honda's with the huge lawnmower exhaust. It doesnt really matter about location here in NY...if ur a ***** ur a *****, if ur a muscle car guy ur a muscle car guy, if u drive respectable imports...then that is what you do. Right by my house is one of the biggest drag spots around(Deer Park Ave...231). It has a marked perfect quarter mile...where every1 street races...but cops swarm that place. Luckily my parents let me get an fbody...otherwise I would be drivin a Bronco(my favorite SUV).

i'm 29 and basicly i just like cars. ok cars, trucks, motorcycles. if it has a motor i love it and want to add some speed and power to it. if its fast its great, if big & burly with 4 wheel drive its great, if it rockets around corners or thumbs along the highway its great. i dont really prefer rice rockets, crotch rockets, american iron or a fat hog.
i just love cars and admire any fast, good handling vehicle on the road or that i happen see. the only thing i dont like are posers or the rice boys, basic imposters. the mustang v6 with strips, cobra rims and a giant rice tail tip or the 4 door civic, dodge neon (whatever) auto with a 1.5 litre and enough stickers to impersonate a british touring car and sounds like a lawn mower without a muffler, scraping the ground the whole time and bouncing off of it with cut springs, thinking he can take you. i hate posers but if a car is fast, its fast and i can appreciate that.

I am 43 years old and have had a few cars over the years. 1969 mustang mach one 428 cj , 1966 mustang convertible, 1971 mustang mach one 429 cj , 1987 mustang gt 302 , 1970 firebird formula 350 , 1986 firebird spiecal addition , 1990 firebird formula , 1992 daytona iroc and my current 1989 firebird gta. Over the years the cars have changed alot to say the least. If you compair the 1971 429 cj mustang to my current 1989 GTA they would be a close match. However the Mustang felt faster than hell. I have always came back to the firebirds. The speed and power are very surprising when put head to head with an older car. Todays cars require you to be a hell of alot smarter overall to get them to perform. I will never have a rice burner!!!! I hate them!!! I have blown them off with my 1996 dodge 4 x 4 pick up. Truck is not te stock. (headers , injectors, chip, intake and a few other goodies.) I will end by saying I feel bad for you young guys trying to build a car today. Everything costs so damn much to do. I myself have spent a lot of money on my current car and have only driven it about 2 miles. I'm lucky at this point in my life, good wife , good job and almost enough money. Keep the firebirds and camaros alive and **** on GM and the insurance companies for killing them. Or should I say for trying.

is there ever enough money, that would be like to many toys, to much s#x or to many days off of work. definately **** on GM for dropping the F bodies without a replacement. i've had my share of fox bodies and fun they are but to many on the road at this point. I agree with turtle.... I'm 30, and really admire a fast car for what it is. Frankly, I've been very impressed with what's been done to improve performance in a lot of the imports. Really, who would have thought in 1980 that a Honda... souped up or not... could really give a 6.6 T/A a run for it's money? Thanks to an astonishing amount of potential in the power-to-weight ratio arena, I think these cars have quite a future performance-wise. That's probably good for import fans, because it's doubtful there will be many civics, accords, or whatever drawing much money or demand as a collectible a decade or two from now. Whilst we fans of the noble f-body will be laughing all the way to the bank.... driving our mint condition Z28's, IROCS, GTAs, Formulas, and 'verts, of course!

another benefit of rice burners and the new string of high strung production burners that are coming out is that they raise the bar for performance cars as a whole. why pay 25k for a slow v8 if you can buy a fast 4 banger plus the push the kids are putting into hot roding their civics and integras is build the performance aftermarket as a whole and interest and appreciation in the auto industry.
i dont see ford or GM releasing a fox body or camaro/firebird replacement that can be beat in the .25 by a production honda, toyota, mazda that is naturally aspirated, even the low production models like the new civic si's or type r's that are out there or will be in the near future.

I'm 16 and I've loved cars since I was about 14. I hate ricers, I've never once even came close to one betting me. I don't really think there is much of a future in ricers, its just a fad thing. in my opinion. I'll always me a muscle car fan!

as for somebody who has owned a Vtec.. (plz don't kill me.. i was young and dumb)..
as a second beater car/communing car they're ok.. i did SOME stuff to it and made it faster.. but my firends with their mustangs always harped on me.. t'was nice having 7.5K to play with in the rpms'.. couldn't do burnouts (well.. yeah.. but they look damn ****ty).. i had the chance to drive some of my firiends mustangs and i loved it.. then i drove a camaro and loved it even more (like the feel of sitting on the ground.. of having tq and a better feel of the car) so i sold the honda and bought a formula..
after a year of diving the formi.. i'm still not used to 5000 redline (still have an 92 escort gt with 7 k redline to it)
i love the sound of an engine.. of the exhaust.. but as long as it's not amplified (with those damn coffee can tips or mufflers) it's ok..
hallow, muffled.. blurry sounds i hate.. tell a tell of a poser right there... (goes for ALL cars)..
if you don't know what i'm talking about.. listen to the civics/integras/etc going around with coffee can mufflers sounding like one big BLAAAAAAAAAA t'll they shift.. then go watch the fast and the furious and listen to those exhaust sounds (or a NASCAR race.. same sound)..
neways.. my view...
Oh.. also like to add that i dislike imports and acuras also because mommy and daddy buys 'em for their kids.. i hate **** like that.. especially when they start saying u'r car's an old POS... (before i take off and let 'em smell tire smoke) and that their car's are nicer.. (yeah.. well.. i WORKED for my car.. so blah on those ones).
ok, i'm starting to rant.....

I'm 18, working on my first nightmare F-body..a 305 but it pulls it's weight
My family has lots of cars - a '69 and a '95 vette, a v6 Accord and a Toyota Tundra... the honest truth of it is that my '87 Camaro will barely beat the Honda and the Tundra doesn't do too bad for its size. since buying my camaro a little over a month ago, I've noticed that a lot of new-stock cars aren't all that slow anymore - Motor Trend says that our v6 Accord will do 13.83 as a 5spd manual in a quarter- faster than the ETs of a whole lotta guys on the board.
The family's accord has a better sound system, bigger rims (16" alloys), fresher paint and probably impresses all the "Ricers" g/fs a whole lot more than my slowly decaying 87, but I love it, and to this day, I'd drive *my car* - my work, my care, and my attention anytime before I'd turn the ignition on a 100,000 mile warranty honda, toyota, or kia with some fake a$$ hood scoops on it.
No matter what, a car guy is a car guy, and if you've got it in your blood to get under the hood for some good ole M&M (maintenance and mods - as long as you're willing to open up the throttle on a two lane to see who's been doing their homework; predator or prey, muscle or *****, you're alright in my book.

Well, you had to know it was going to happen....
Is this technical? Convince me and it won't get locked.
I will admit, I had to chuckle when I got down to the last poll category and it said "31 or older". Damn. There was no category that fit me. It's like everyone has given up on life after 30. That was a while back for me, and I refuse to be "older". O.K., it might be a technical post if you consider you would have to use a small computer to tabulate my age.
Let's just say that I wasn't a WWII veteran, but I'm older than the space program. When I was born, a computer was something in a science fiction movie, and ALL cars had tail fins (and they were cool then, too).
I might be "older" but I'm still not dead. And for those who aren't sure by now, when I take that "last ride", if they try to cart me off in a Civic or Volvo wagon, I'm going to get out and walk, I swear. I used to think that really old people drove Cadillacs just to get used to the idea of that "last ride". Then I started looking at the STS and for a while I thought it was a good idea. After the caffine kicked in it scared the heck out of me. I haven't looked at one since, except in the mirror.
I'm sticking with a ThirdGen and the other American Muscle until it won't go any more. I'd rather be stuck in the '80s than look like I'm 80. Tell that to your ***** and Beemer friends, if they can hear you as you pull away. I can take a "beater" that handles better than 99% of anything on the road, makes the first 1300 feet in 14 seconds any day, has some substance instead of aluminum foil and plastic wrap, goes 150 MPH if I need it to, and still gets almost 30 MPG. Is there something I'm missing? What else would I want? Oh, a little style and class? A Civic or Eclipse has more style than a Trans Am? Excuse me!? Yeah, right, whatever.

When I was younger, I lived in a place where the only cars on the road were 4 bangers and a few V-6's.
I swore that I would own a V-8. Didn't want a Ford because of the bad rep they used to have with their cars "Fixed Once Repaired Daily"
Got my Chevy with everything I wanted for what I could afford at the time and have loved it ever since.
4 cylinder engines are for lawn mowers and go-karts IMO.

for Vader, basically it was to see what age group of people mostly like a era of car, from what we've been discussing we would have thought the 3rd gens would be dominated by the 16-21 year olds, but suprising the number of over 30 people interested in them, for the most part people seem to want a car that was popular when they were kids, or the newest car they can get for the lowest price. very instesting the wide variety into the 3rd gens from all over the age groups.

Eh, looks like nopboody used the poll function.
Just turned 23. I always wanted a camaro but 1st gens are out of the question too pricy although I had restored a couple of the. 2nd gens IMO (dont flame) are bu++ ugly and fourth gens have too much BS under the hood for my taste. Besides I loved watching Knight Rider when I was 5 so that had an influence.

I am 17, wanted a Camaro since forever. My sister had a 79 Firebird V8, she past that on to my other sister. And she got an 87 Camaro Z28. My brother had old Monte's like 70's and such. But later he got an 89 mustang gt, then later a 93 mustang lx 5.0. My sister who got the 79 firebird past down to her, then got an 89 Firebird Formula. But then, my other sister aside from the two got a late 80's VW Jetta (so I dunno what happened there??). Then I got an 89 IROC-Z. Currently my sis who had the 79 Firebird first now has a 2000 Grand Am. The one who got the 79 Firebird handed down to her now has a 2001 Grand Cherokee. My sis who had the Jetta, now has a 94 Jetta. And my brother drives a Chevy Celebrity station wagon. Oh yeah and my bro in law (who is wit my Gr. Cherokee sis), had an 86 Camaro 6 cylinder. Now he drives a Honda Civic, its strickly a commuter car tho, but he had a Chevy Astro before he messed up the engine. But thats pretty much why I like muscle, I've grown up with it, it's the best. Also I agree with some one who posted earlier, I hate when parents buy their kids cars, its bull sheeet!

But according to the poll so far, looks like us older, wiser men are the ones who have nothing better to do but hang out online!!!!

83 LG4. I hate rice and it seems its becoming more and more
popular. These idiots think that the deep throaty rumble of my

But in places like Oakland
(where I grew up) Every body is into rocs, stangs, monte carlos,
and cougars.

I like driving a car that looks like its own category as well! When my 91' pulls up, you know that it is a F Body, not some type of import
. BTW, I'm 17.

I'm 25 and love the late 60's and very early 70's muscle cars. But I also like the newer muscle cars, like Viper's, F-bodies (the LS-1 is a heck of a stock engine),and even the new Mustangs a little. And I've always loved the way the IROC's look. I HATE rice though. I respect the few import guys who actually get their cars fast, but for the MOST part, the import seen is about tacky looking econoboxes that think they are fast. I'll never understand that crap. But a nice fast TT Supra without a bunch of stickers or florescent paint is ok with me, although I'd still prefer an American muscle car w/ a big V-8. There aren't many sounds better than a well running, powerful V-8, and few worse than a loud 160HP 4 cylinder.
Im 17, I own 2 82 camaros, 76/77 mustangs, 79 dodge truck , 72 swinger, 65 ford meteor. Both camaros were totaled off, one was burnt, the other was knocking , 76 mustang I bought with a blown up motor, pulled the77 out of the bush, the truck came with a blown up motor and a dying tranny, 72 swinger had no motor and needed body work, and the meteor needed a rebuild and new clutchpacks. Did I mention I hate imports, front wheel drive and am not a big fan of fuel injection. And When was the last time you heard a 17 year old say Points Rule!? I like anything with a V8 and rear wheel drive. Now that imports have become more popular Im liking ford more and more!

47... and I KNOW what I want to be when I grow up!. . .
. . . REAL OLD!
Love the late 60's and early '70 muscle cars, had several... but I drive the mid 80's EFI cars and truck.
To keep this tech. - I just figured out why my '89 GMC TPI setup, installed in '94 with a 165 MAF system, needs the Park/Neutral switch... with the NOW 730 ECM it won't set the desired idle on cold starts above 800 without it! Glad I lived long enough to figure that one out! Stumbled across it HERE, on the best 3gen site on the WEB by far!
Thanks to all of you, YOUNG and OLD!

20 and owned a 3rd gen since I was 16. I also own a Daytona Shelby Z(my new project). I think the import/ricers are alot different then a 3 or 4 yrs ago. Maybe I've just grown, but back then a 16 sec honda was thought of as fast, now my friends with hondas or imports that run 14s or faster, make fun of those kids the same as I do. They even sell and install "them" stupid lights and stickers. The whole time making fun of the kids' cars.

23. When I was younger, in the 4-9 range, we never had a lot of money. So my dad and I always worked on our own car. When people at the church we went to had problems, we would work on those too. I have a lot of fond memories working out in the garage until 10pm getting something to work. I had some hurt times too, but when your young, the greatest thing is knowing you have someone to teach you how to do something you love. I have owned a 72 Chevelle (totaled into a tree), 79 Grand Prix (baby dung green), 96 Chevy truck, 69 LeMans, 88 Turbo Coupe, and currently 97 Grand Prix, and 91 Z28. The only one I liked to see go was the 79 Grand Prix (the 301 accidentally grenaded). Why did GM ever use that color?

One more thing, since most have mentioned it,......ricers. I can respect some of them. I have never had a big head about the things I am blessed with, or the things I have accomplished. When a ***** says they have this and that, and it runs 10's on street tires, I have to ask "How much did this and that cost?" "Well, um about 10 grand." Okay. Now the ones I respect know that 10K goes a lot further on a Chevy than it does on a *****, and they don't brag about it.
