Lt1 tuning?

I have a 1996 Camaro lt1 that has a 383 in it. Into running pig rich! Anybody have any good recommendations on what I need to tune it? I'm a DIYer so what do I need as far a cable and software goes?

Being a 96 its obd2. You will need jet dst software

or

find a 94-95 pcm and swap it in. It should be direct plug n play. Rewire the aldl port with a obd1 unit. You can get a cable from moates.net. Download tunerpro rt and find the $EE related files

then you need a copy of winflash from tunercats.

Re: Lt1 tuning?

I don't think it's quite direct P-&-P. I have a '94 and a '96 LT1. The Optis are different, the auto trans is different if you're using that, and there are a few other differences. I'm guessing the differences could all be worked out and/or wired around, then programmed accordingly before flash, but haven't done it myself.

I would opt for the OBD2 software.

Re: Lt1 tuning?

From all that i read it works really well and only major change is use a 94-95 knock sensor for the 94-95 pcm. There may be other things but if you have a 96/97 lt1 and harness, the 94-95 pcm can run it with a 94-95 knock sensor. Thats the only change i see.

Re: Lt1 tuning?

Yes that is my understanding also. Many owners got away from using the downstream of the cat O2 sensors by using the early PCM - less emissions worries and easier to tune. The early 4L60E uses something different though and I can't recall what it is right now. I'll try and look that up and post later.

The JET/DTS software for '96-'97 LT1 is pretty expensive.

Re: Lt1 tuning?

Shift solenoid resistances varied about every year from the early '90s to '98, when they somewhat unified. The pressure control and TCC lockup schemes are different in some of those years, too. .

Re: Lt1 tuning?

Yes, that's it. The '95 and later transmission used pulse width modulation PWM AND THE '94 4L60E doesn't. Sorry but I don't the fix for that or if there is one other than replace the transmission.

Re: Lt1 tuning?

The 94-95 pcm are exact same so only difference would be the tune file. They both are $EE so I realy dont think the trans is an issue if you wanted to use a different ecm. Just flash the correct tune.

harness wise i dont know it may be different. Have to look at diagrams but regardless this is irrelevant to the op question
