Re: V8 water pump rebuild possible
Anything is possible, but youll likely need a press and a few other things to do it. I've seen a video on youtube about it at one point but looked like an absolute PITA.
Honestly dont know why you would bother, theres no extra value to be had in an original factory water pump that was fitted to millions of motors.

Re: V8 water pump rebuild possible
Not necessarily a 'rebuild' but I used to get discs that would pop rivet on the back of the impeller to 'supposedly' give extra flow..
But like Zed says, probably not worth the effort.
Or if you're like me, I'd like to at least try and see what can be done. But it would be kinda poopy if you do all that work, and it feels nice and snug all to have the weep hole dripping after you put it all back together..

Re: V8 water pump rebuild possible
Haven't ever seen a bearing & seal sold on the open market; but I suppose if you could get that, it wouldn't be all that hard.
Re: V8 water pump rebuild possible
It used to be a lot more common. In the past, I've been caught dismantling pumps to make up a "good" one with a deeper impeller and new bearings and seal pack. A 204 bearing and seal pack used to be common items in parts houses. It's not so common any more.

I sent my edelbrock aluminum waterpump back to them after 20yrs for a just incase rebuild. I thought it was worth the 75 bux. I'm sure sbc pump parts are pretty cheap.

Re: V8 water pump rebuild possible
I saw an outfit in California that seems to specialize in rebuilding water pumps. haven't called them yet, and didn't see mention of sbc on their site. probably for some of the reasons stated here. the videos around the web make it seem pretty straight forward, just need a press.
