Dart "Iron Eagle"heads
old '624 heads on my 350 getting tired-last rebuilt them in 1998 ~120,000 miles ago...thinking about replacing them with a set of "Iron Eagles"I will buy bare and outfit with Ferrea valves and other high-grade hardware.Should be a nice upgrade over the Carter era 76 cc smoggers they will replace
Forgot the model# of the Dart heads up for consideration, but they are 67cc chamber,165 cc runner,1.94/1.50 Vortec style chamber and "wissota"approved
Just wondering if anyone here has used the Darts and has any comments.

Re: Dart "Iron Eagle"heads
If you need that WISSOTA approved head they are probably as good (or bad?) as anything else out there. Seriously restricted airflow with a 165 runner. I guess if that's the name of your game they ought to do the job.

Re: Dart "Iron Eagle"heads
No Wissota compliance needed-this is just for mild street usage in my z28
165 runner should work great with my modified Crossfire injection manifold-I think stock Vortec heads are ~170cc and 993s,882s,624 etc.are ~180cc .Decided to try the Iron Eagles, so got them ordered along with the parts -will see how they perform vs the ported '624s -should have them on in about 1 mo.,snow should be clear by then

Re: Dart "Iron Eagle"heads
You said Crossfire injection. Then you are aware that this intake has 1/3 of each intake port blocked off by the factory, so then I agree, you do not need larger ports.
But you also said "modified". How so?

Re: Dart "Iron Eagle"heads
The crossfire intake was modified by welding up aluminum to the runner intakes and reshaping to an enlarged and flared profile, the inside of the runners hogged out and smoothed. For more clearance above the enlarged runner intakes,a 1/4" spacer was made to raise the manifold lid.fuel pump upgraded, pressure raised a little.'624 heads were given a mild port job. This resulted in a very substantial power increase on the stock '84 'vette engine -runs right up to 5500 instead of going lame at ~4300 as original
Very satisfied with performance after the modification. The TBIs are 1 13/16" bore VS Iron duke 1 11/16 bore and flow 550 CFM together-plenty of capacity for mildly warm street duty. The Dart heads will raise my compression about a full point, but with the better chamber design and good quench should be fine.

Re: Dart "Iron Eagle"heads
The iron eagles came in today-look really nice, clean castings, thick deck,multi-angle valve jobs, made in USA ,and only~ $300each bare.Just a little touch-up with a die grinder will be done to smooth a few minor "burrs"here and there.Design is similar to GM Vortec except intake ports are not slightly raised like Vortecs and the Darts have much thicker casting and cleaner chambers...
