Or you could do a little hotter coil, some 8.5's like MSD and gap at 044....

Re: Spark plugs and wires for tpi motor
In order to go with a hotter coil, you really should get a distributor module that can handle it. Davis Unified Ignition sells a module and coil that allows you to run .060" gap.
I personally run the Accel non-resistor shorty plugs (headers). MSD wires.

The stock replacement wires for our cars are 7mm. But if you get the replacement wires for an 87-95 Chevy TBI truck, they are 8mm.

Ohm check the stock wires, I'd bet they'll be ok. Stock delco plugs work about the best. You really won't see any performance increase with "hotter aftermarket" parts unless you are turning some serious rpm, even then not much of an improvement.
Best advice I got from my life long mechanic step grandpa, if it ain't broke, don't "fix" it! lol.

Re: Spark plugs and wires for tpi motor
Many, if not even most, of the ignition parts available in the aftermarket are junk. This is the inevitable result of the age of these systems. Buying "performance" parts is often the only way to get quality components. Higher ignition voltages are helpful for higher cylinder pressures, and they do help keep the plugs clean. Larger gap exposes more air/fuel mix to the spark.
If you have to buy parts - buy good ones and reap the benefits.
If it's not broke, maintain it!

Re: Spark plugs and wires for tpi motor
I put 8 mm Taylor spiro-pro wires on mine. Fit perfect, work great. I got the set specific to the car so everything was cut to length with both connectors installed. I'm running an MSD replacement coil slightly hotter than stock. Mounts on the original coil bracket.
For plugs, I'm running Autolite Platinums.
