SBC Gen 1 OEM Style Roller Lifter Options
It's looking more likely that I'll be getting GM's 383 shortblock as a replacement for my worn out (and undoubtedly broken) 355. The only thing lacking, between what's supplied and what I have, is a cam and lifters.
My Comp short travel retro-fit rollers aren't compatible with the new factory block as my understanding is that a .300" taller lifter is required.
So, the question is, what's the go to part in this application? It'll be an OEM roller arrangement with the spider and dog bones but the choice of tappets are many and varied. I've heard LS7 lifters fit the bill here. Any other suggestions? I suppose also that I could go with a taller link-bar style but haven't researched the cost vs benefit at this stage.
FWIW, maximum engine speed will likely be 6000 rpm so nothing really exotic is required. Even the original factory rollers, which had high RPM problems would probably work here.

LS7 ones drop right in and seem to work just fine in those applications. http://www.ws6project.com/user_stor/...12499225-Bulk/
They tend to want a bit more preload than we're accustomed to in the SBC world... something around .075 - .080" at the lifter. That's around ¾ turn on the nut.

That seems to fall in line with what I've been reading.
But the price surprises me. That's cheap! Compared to nearly $200 at Summit for the same part number it seems to good to be true. But even at 200 bucks, that's a far cry from the nearly 600 I paid for Comps 15853 short travel link bar lifters. And the link bar style aren't rebuildable which, at this stage of the game with respect to the condition my 350 is in, is necessary.
Sourcing the spider and dog bones shouldn't be a problem.
As for the pre-load and the 3/4 turn requirement, is that to get the lifter plunger centred in it's bore? With the above mentioned short travel lifters, pre-load is slightly more 10 thou at 1/4 turn. They bottom out with about a turn and a half (IIRC).
Thanks for the link.

Those are delphis not gm parts. I have heard they arent as good but no experience with them
johnson makes lifters too
are you sure the comps you have are not already tall? Some retrofit lifters come .300 tall anyway

Delphi = GM, for all practical purposes to people like us (even though they are 2 completely separate companies from an ownership standpoint)
It is what has become of the piece of "old" "bad" GM that they spun off back in the 90s, and included the AC/Delco division. It still makes GM OEM parts. It and GM have continued to trade various operational divisions over the years, particularly as each one has gone through bankruptcies, reorganizations, etc..
