Hello,
On 2017 spring, I have buy a Camaro with a 305 quadrajet. I replaced the fuel pump in prevention before it Gets old. The New one was a Spectra mechanical fuel pump. On 2018 spring, I took out the car from the garage and after about 100 miles, the engine began to sputters under load intermittently (only when warm-hot). I checked all related things and finally, the fuel pressure was the culprit, it seemed the diaphragm was leaking when the pump dilates when hot. When cold, it was ok. I removed the pump to change it and the pump falls in pieces when removing it (the lever, the pin and the spring had gone off). Replaced it and the car ran like champ another year. At spring of 2019, I took the car from the garage and ran 600 miles without problem, but after that, whennthe engine was warm-hot, the engine began to sputters at idle and the idle was low... The cars began to hesitates on accélération, and the engine stalled suddenly without any possibility of starting it again until it gets cold. But cold, it was fine again. Last week I removed the old spectra pump to change it, and it was in pieces again ! (Lever, pin and spring falls to Ground when removing). I changed it for another pump and it runs ok now... But im wondering whats the real problem? Are spectra pumps crap? Do you think it's because I have a fuel Filter before the pump which Makes restriction and causes the pump to fail? I installed it to prevent crap from fuel tank to go into the pump.
Other ideas of the cause of the failing pumps?

Replace it with a Carter.
I stopped buying anything made by Spectra years ago when I went through a bunch of their junk. One was a new fuel filter that leaked gas all over my engine bay. I decided the fuel system was no place to skimp on parts because I don't need my car going up in flames from some knockoff junk leaking fuel all over a hot/flammable engine bay.
