The "Guess where this part goes" game

This snap ring fell off the front of the car today while jacking up my car. Never seen a snap ring that wasn't really, really important. So let the guessing being..... where do you think this come from? Sounded like it bounced off metal a few times before it fell on the floor. Found it on the driver side under the engine bay.

1989 Firebird, LS7 engine with LS1 F-body accessories.

Do Koni front struts have a snap ring?

Trying to avoid disassembling the entire freakin' car to find out where this thing goes.

Founders strut tower?

Could it be from the brake master cylinder?

Re: The "Guess where this part goes" game

Just a stupid wild guess , could it have come from the AC compressor ? I only ask because I thought I remember removing a similar looking snap ring to replace the clutch on a car AC once upon a time (so long ago in fact that I can't even recall if it was a GM car or not)

If not , I got nothing else ....

No AC installed. Keep the ideas coming!

I dismounted the brake master cylinder and it has snap ring in place. Looks like I may need some reservoir seals though.

Re: The "Guess where this part goes" game

It is extremely similar to the Yella Terra rocker arm snap rings, but not exactly the same. And all the rocker arms have the snap rings in place. Double checked my old engine with rocker trunion upgrade and those snap rings are different and all are in place.

Anybody have a picture of the underside of a Founders strut tower? Wondering if it fell out of there.

Re: The "Guess where this part goes" game

I hope the mystery is solved. I think it is from my floor jack.

I had to disassemble the whole jack to get to the location and the clip doesn't really want to seat. It's an old, inexpensive jack that leaks a tad so I'm ordering up a new jack. I always wanted a really nice jack so I've got an excuse now!

First thought when looking at picture before reading this was, rocker arm trunion. Sincerely hoping it’s from your floor jack
