Good engine oil tube?

Anyone have a lead on a good engine oil tube for SBC with the oil tube on the passenger side? I'm having trouble finding what I'm looking for online, maybe I'm just searching for the wrong thing. What I'm looking for is something like the original style where it's a full length tube that comes up above the headers and includes the mounting tab for bolting it down to the header bolt. The one that I got from the auto parts store last time was trash, too big to fit in the hole and mounting tab didn't line up well enough to use. I'd be fine with decent shape used or NOS as well. So anyone got any leads or recommendations on brands that work well?

Re: Good engine oil tube?

I have the Lokar ED-5001 on my car with Dyno Don headers and I'm quite happy with the product.

Re: Good engine oil tube?

I do have the Dyno Don headers so maybe I should just go with one of those Lokar ones. As for a zz4 dipstick I'll have to double check if my block has the proper mounting point for one of those. Anything will be better than the current one!

I also have a Lokar I got from Summit, it is XED-5001. Also have Dyno Don's headers, it's a good setup for me.

Re: Good engine oil tube?

*Caution- old thread but I struggled so much with this that I wanted to post the part numbers for the ZZ4 dipstick in case anyone else needs one. I tried a "knock off" Lokar that ended with the end of the spring steel breaking off basically first go round. The good news is it broke outside the tube/engine. Also, I did not want one that attaches to the header bolt as with the Dyno Don headers it further complicates tightened them so I felt it was better to have a tube that attached to the block rather than the header.

ZZ4 part numbers from Summit
NAL-1255144- stick
NAL-1255154- tube

Re: Good engine oil tube?

I cannot absolutely confirm but I am pretty sure the 305 and 350 have essentially the same physical dimensions on the block. Perhaps one of the senior members can weigh in here @sofakingdom @Vader or others?

Re: Good engine oil tube?

So many on here swear by the Lokar but here is a counter to that from @Thirdgen89GTA . I also am not a fan of it being hooked to a header bolt. Its hard enough to get to the header bolts without this thing being in the way.

Re: Good engine oil tube?

Someone can weigh in on this but I think the zz4 uses a boss on the block and I think its the same bolt as starter bracket if using the old bulky starter (I converted to the Corvette smaller one so don't use this boss).

I have an L98 but like I said I don't think the dipstick tube hole is different in size or location than the 305 LB9.

Re: Good engine oil tube?

So I list both stick and tube part numbers. Should be the same 305 or 350.

Re: Good engine oil tube?

Update- finally got to installing the zz4 dipstick. I will warn anyone doing this in car, the hole/slot did not align with the hole even though the tube was all the way seated. So I had to yank it out and open the hole a little.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Good engine oil tube?

Reason it doesn't fit right with headers is, it's designed to work with stock manifolds. Those are about an inch and a half thick, and the hardware for it is a stud, with a smaller end for the tab on the tube than the bolt part that goes into the head (5/16" vs 3/8"). The hole is too small and will be up too high if you try to put it directly under a header bolt head.

Re: Good engine oil tube?

I wasn’t trying to connect to the header bolt. The reason I bought this one is that it connects to the side of the block. I did not have to bend or alter the tube at all but the slot was too high to get the bolt in so I was able to open it up a bit and make it work fine. This is just a tip for others if you are using this zz4 tube with headers, it may be worth opening the hole before the install. See picture up a couple posts shows how it assembles to the block.
