305 engine revs out but does pull hard when accelerating
Re: 305 engine revs out but does pull hard when accelerating
sorry , meant to say does NOT pull hard. It just seems to climb without really giving you the sensation that it has some power to go along with the revs.
May be that the advance weights are stuck in the dizzy and it is not advancing enough. Or is it possible that the coil is weak (does not appear to break down).
Vehicle only gets driven once or twice a month.
Starts immediately. Has been like this for a while, however, took it out a while ago and drove 1/21 mile to the service station and left it idling. came back to the car and it had stopped. tried a couple of times to crank it but no start. left for 15 seconds and it started. coughed a bit. drove up the road and turned a corner and it stalled again. Tried cranking. lrft for 20 seconds and it fired and drove for 10 miles no problem . Then slowed down to enter a driveway and it stalled again. Rolled into the car park and it fired straight up again and has not done it since. Changed the fuel filter after all that and am waiting to see if it stalls again . Still has the not much power when revving.
Maybe fuel pump is weak. Bugger of a job to change .
What do you think
Cheers Simon

Any SES light or codes stored? I think the first thing I would check would probably be fuel pressure. You haven't indicated that you're noticing a missfire, just low power and stalling.
A plugged cat can also cause the types of symptoms you are seeing.

You can try removing the cat and looking through it to see if it's plugged. I imagine starting the engine and driving a little bit with the cat unhooked would tell you if the issue is related.
To check fuel pressure, connect the tester to the valve on the fuel rail- passenger side toward the firewall.

Hi Davey,
I might get a bit sneaky and have a pipe made up to replace the cat and try it out. Hopefully it has a flange on either end to make it easy to do .
Cant say I have actually checked that out when I have been under it. Might get a chance on Sunday. Going to a swap meet on Saturday. Unfortunately there will not be any 3rd Gen camaro or trans am part sellers there. as I am in Australia. A new hi flow cat over here is ridiculous money . Well over $300 AUD. I can get a fuel pressure tester off ebay for around $50 or so.
Thanks for the advice
