5.0 RS Acceleration
My 89 RS with the 5.0 V8 automatic when accelerating (at least once or twice a day) will throw a CEL and give me hardly any power. Like geo metro power. If I pull over and turn the car off and back on. The CEL goes away and I have all the power back. Any ideas on what this is? I cant pull the code because I have to shut off and turn on the vehicle, but when I do that the light/ code goes away.

Get an ALDL cable or scan tool and monitor the malfunction flags. It's anyone's guess what code you are throwing.

Re: 5.0 RS Acceleration
Have you actually attempted to pull codes? There may be one or more stored in memory; the cost to find out is a paper clip.

I just found out this trick to pull codes! I have code 43 which is either my knock sensor or ECS. Another post had the same issue. Turns out o cant run 91 octane as it causes my engine to ping setting off my knock sensor. I'm running 87 now and it runs 10x better.
