Headlight motor install
Hi all. I had my headlight motor rebuilt and want to ensure I install it correctly so I don’t strip the gears. It’s been off the car for quite some time and don’t remember how it attaches to the assembly. Is there an incorrect way? It looks pretty straight forward but don’t want to screw it up. It appears the 84s don’t use the three pellets like the later models. From what I’ve researched if it isn’t installed correctly it will not use internal stops and will continue to spin and ruin its gears.
Re: Headlight motor install
Without getting too deep into the subject... The early setup uses mechanical stops on the headlight assembly, and thermal switches in the motors to stop them at limits.
Re: Headlight motor install
Looking at the 1984 headlight door motor diagram you can see that there are limit switches (called "Actuator switches") that stop the motor at either end of it's travel . Never having taken an 84's headlight doors/motors apart my instinct would be to make sure of which position the output shaft of the motor is , either door up or door down , and make sure the headlight door is in that position when hooking up the mechanical linkage . In fact , I would plug the rebuilt motor in to it's electrical connector and turn the lights on and off once or twice to ensure the motor cycles correctly and as long as it does I'd install it with both the motor's output shaft and the headlight door in whichever position made it easy to get to the required parts .
