ok i'm new to this, learning about car engine parts but what is a cam, and what does it do??? also i hear that a newer one/better one provides more horsepower?!?!?
also how much $$$ would one cost for a 305 TPI engine???

cams are responsible for opening and closeing the valves
And are one of the main components in determining how much air a motor can move.
You can get by with a little as 80bucks for a cam swap and as much as 300. It just depends on what you have to replace and what type of deal you happen to find.
You will need to improve exhaust flow and intake flow to help take advantage of a cam replacement.
