Hello everyone, I just purchased a 82 Firebird here in Alaska! Picked it up for $300. Previous owner said he thinks the starter went out so he bought a starter to go with the car but didn’t install it. Has a brand new Edelbrock Carb on it along with a New air filter housing. Also came with 2 brand new headlights. After getting the car to the house and looking over the car I have noticed that a lot of the fuses are missing. So naturally I replace the ones that are missing and the ones that wasn’t. In doing so I noticed that the fuel pump fuse location along with some others have no wires running to the fuse box and there is no where for a fuse. I’m no electrician but obviously that’s wrong. I also noticed that I assume where relays go for the IGN and a few other things was not there. Upon further inspection of the car the neutral safety switch has some wires cut as well. After doing some reading I’m assuming they had tried to bypass the NSS. When I turn the Key on I get dash lights, headlights, brake lights, and a dome light. And the push button to open the trunk works. Other than that I have no crank or anything. I’m new to the Firebird world and older car world but would consider myself handy as far as working on things go. Any help or shared knowledge would be greatly appreciated
I'm not so certain that an '82 305 should even have a fuse for the fuel pump...I don't think they went to electric fuel pumps until '84 or so, and IIRC, that was only for the 305 HO, and even then, it was more of a "helper" pump as they still had a mechanical fuel pump as well. Perhaps it was thinking ahead on GM's part to have a slot in the fuse box for an electric pump, knowing that they'd probably need it later on?
Have you checked the starter wires with a multimeter while trying to crank the car to verify that there's no power going to them? I'd probably start there.
Thanks for the reply! I will certainly try that once the snow melts or I can get it into a garage! You could be right but I don’t know why there would be a fuse location if one wasn’t needed? Can you point me in the right direction of what relays to use for the IGN and other relays that are missing in the fuse box?

So do I need a fuse for the fuel pump or no? And I’m going to try and take a look at that today but I don’t have a garage and it just snowed around 1.5FT here in Alaska. Weather isn’t helping the itch to get this thing running!
only Crossfire injection(CFI) cars has electric fuel pump in '82,standard carb. engine just used engine mounted mechanical pump. The empty "IGN"slot you mention is likely where options could be plugged in-I'll look at my '82 and see what is there
