OK i will go to the shop and check but i just got an email from scat saying it is a cast crank.
I paid a prominant Engine shop in Phoenix to do me a 383 in 4340 internals and i got junk.
the invoice he sent me said 4340 crank rotating assembly and rods.
he charged me $7400 and its full of chinese junk.
I don't know what crank you got, and if you got cast but paid for forged I would be hot too. But you need to settle down and stop calling Scat cast cranks chinese junk... I use them personally and they are great quality. It's actually kinda funny, you complaining about "chinese junk" and then buy a engine from another country/continent... I plan on buying AFR 195 enforcer "as cast" cylinder heads....are they chinese junk too?
The crank isnt the problem its all the other crap he used, He charged me for 4340
He charged me for a 4340 and matching rods and forged Mahle or wiseco pistons he told me whats available at the time.
The rods and pistons are No name and the plastic front cover was rubbing on the balancer and melted the cover and the thrust washer had the and broken off .
the engine has poor cylinder pressure and the cam is a stepped nose job and no adjustment.
i also got no name lifters and a single row timing set thats non adjustable,, its got a comp cams 510 lift cam that comp cams runs on you tube in a 350 with simmilar parts than mine it made 403hp, that same cam in a 383 is less effective.
To change the cam most of the bits in the photo will be brushed aside as the plastic cover is melted, the stepped cam and lifters will go, the timing set is useless on a new solid cam and the front cover will need to be replaced.
i sent my MSD pro billet to the engine shop and someone put a gold coloured brass looking gear on it,,its got to go also.
i am in Australia
And he charged me $300 for an engine clam shell to transport it and it turned up on a used GM pallet with a cardboard box over it,
i would say it was off a customers crate engine from GM as it was marked CT400 ,, thats a stock block speedway crate motor box.
I paid $300 for a used cardboard box.
I also asked 1/2 dozen times for documents saying what was in the motor,, i got no reply every time.
i bought from the shop in phoenix because engines in australia are about 25% more expensive and my friend in the photo with the blown 351 windsor doesnt really do 383,s much and i didnt want to get him involved.
he does all motors but only uses name brands that get results and i didnt have $12,000 to buy a 383 with a dart block and calies, etc like he does.
the as cast stuff is good if you put your own gear in it.
i have AFR 195,s on this motor and they are good for 500.
possibly cast in China,, no problem but chinese companies design and made in china selling in america with my name or whateven name you invent is a problem.
The engine on the stand is not mine,, but the internals are visable and accountable and all listed in the build.
my friend with the blown 351 is building this for a customer.
Its $2500 over my budget but i should have bought from him here is Australia.,, No problems, no cheap stuff.
The broken thrust washer was in this new motor as in the photo.
american companies making parts in china isnt the problem.
chinese company,s copying american parts and american companies putting their own names on this is a problem.
Quality control is poor,, Pro comp,Promax, cranks made in india and foundries in bangladesh are not good.
I wouldnt jump from an aeroplane with a bangladeshi parachute
if i had a choice
American Parachute or chinese Parachute before i jump from that plane i know my answer.
Taiwanese parts great,
Korean Great
I import Tshirt printers from China and sell them
3 in 10 are no good
Thailand machines 10 in 10 are great but $300 more to buy.
