Engine Plug Identify

What is the orange plug at the top left of the pic? It’s above the oil filter. I was looking for my oil pressure sensor and noticed this thing.

It’s a 93 LT1.

Re: Engine Plug Identify

A block heater. Normally that's just a standard freeze plug

Re: Engine Plug Identify

Zackly... car must have been sold somewhere far north like the Dakotas, western Canada, etc., and someone ordered that option for it.

Re: Engine Plug Identify

That’s interesting. I have no clue about the backstory short of who sold it to me. He was definitely not the first owner. The oil pressure gauge is pegged at the top so I’m assuming the sensor is bad. The sensor also doesn’t look like the ones I’ve seen from other posts. Is it the small filter looking thing on the L above the oil filter?

Probably means the wire is unplugged. It's possible the sending unit (it's not a [mrspock] sen-sore [/mrspock]) could be bad; note that I am NOT saying "the sending unit is good"; only, that the wire being unplugged fits the advice in my signature and is therefore THE MOST LIKELY explanation - NOT necessarily "the right" or "the only" one - for the observed behavior. Also MUCH easier to deal with that, than actually changing the SU.

Yes the SU could be monitoring the pressure in the horizontal port that terminates above the filter pad. Not sure in that specific application(s) (Vette, F-body, B-body) which one, of the possible alternative locations, they used for the SU.

Re: Engine Plug Identify

I’ll look for the wiring harness. I don’t see any wiring in the area other then o2 sensor.
