Will vortec heads off a full size truck with a vortec engine work on my car? besides needing a new intake manifold and milling would anything else need to be done? about how much would these cost at a salvage yard, say off a 1997 full size truck?

A friend of mine works at a late model yard. He says he's seen alot of cracked vortec heads. By the time they get them, he figures they've seen too much heat.
Better off getting new castings. By the time you purchase the heads and send them to the machine shop to get pressure tested and then rebuilt/modified - you could have about paid for new ones!!

Should be able to get them for $220 each - complete or $290 each modified for hyd.roller cam w//525 lift and screw in studs.
Stock vortec heads won't take over about .450 lift. They flow great, but don't over heat them! Make sure your cooling system is top notch.

You're much better off getting World Products S/R Torquer 305 heads for use a 305. They have thicker castings, a chamber meant for a 305, the same size valves & ports, screw-in studs, springs that can handle decent lift, and are generally better castings. They also don't require an expensive specialty intake manifold.
They do benefit from some mild porting, but so do Vortecs for that matter. By the time you get Vortecs to work on your engine, though, you could get the Worlds for the same money and have new, better heads to boot.
