Whats your Smog tips/ tricks ?
Smog time again
Last time it was not the easiest to pass to say the least
I didnt have any codes and fresh plugs wires cap rotor and all that....it took me four tries to get it to go
It was running great
I dunno why it wouldnt pass
I even took it to a smog shop "a friend doing this for 20+ years"
He couldn't find a damn thing wrong #'s just wouldnt go
Any way what Tricks or tips do you guys have on getting to pass???
Any MUST do's??

I just take my car to a friends shop and get it inspected.
Smog and A/C take up too much valuable space.
Look at all the space I have. 30 minutes or less to change plugs and wires.

I wish
All of us in califorina dont have that option though ...."well some do"
but theres no one im my town that will "smog" cars for some side cash
they have made it really hard to do that with the new laws here
I hate califorina laws
anyway
How about Fuel Press. If I were to lower fuel press really low at the regulator and lean it out as much as possible ("because the have to check you timing here too!") would this theroy work ?
I know some of you are tec's here
what are your tricks

I don't have any tricks for emmisions testing.
They don't do that in Virginia, they just do a visual inspection.

I had a lot of trouble last year with my carbed 350 TA, but as soon as I figgered out what it was it was a sinch!
Take a look at the readout, is it NOx that's failing you or hydrocarbons? If NOx, that was my problem, I just swapped in a bigger oriface gaurd on my EGR valve and passed... I almost failed in hydrocarbons, though. You have to play with sizes there to balance it out perfectly. Also your cat could be busted. If hydros are failing ya, you may either have too much EGR or your running rich.
I'm wondering if it has something to do with your NOS system. If there's a wiring problem that's making the computer think the system's always active or something, your ECM is adding unneccessary extra fuel... don't know how'd it'd do this since you have an O2 sensor, but then again, I'm no fuel injection expert...
Just trying to help, man; I know emissions suck!
BTW, are you really runnin' a 200hp shot on a little ol' 305!?

*someone should do an article on passing emissions that would be very useful*
I dont have the read out in front of me I would have to do some digging , but I think it was the hydrocarbons
Chris I know is not anything to do with the N02 system ..the only thing that could really happen is the silinoid leaking by fuel ...I did check that as wel ...but thanks for trying to help...oh and ya This little 305 is a great motor 130,000 on it and still running stong... about 8-10 + bottles of n02 threw it already
It was actually close on both of them Hydro. and N0x but I'm pretty shure it was the Hydro. that caused me to fail it wasnt by much either but we couldnt make up that little differance to get it to pass
what about Octane ... I've been told both Higher and lower
I would assume lower so that it would burn better but not as combustable (sp?) ..... or any other tricks
Input ?
Thanks

For HCs, this did the trick for me. Backed out the base timing, for me it was from 8* to 1* BTDC. Then 4 of those little bottles of dry gas in a half tank of gas. Dropped my HCs form 2.7 to 1.8 (needed 2.0 or lower to pass). After that I passed with a hollow cat.

if you can register your car in an area that doesn't have smog tests you'll be golden, like a friend's or relative's house. the BMV might ask for proof of residency (bill with your name and new address) where you're registering the car so if you can get a bill sent to that address so you can then bring it to the BMV when you register the car. Then just put a mail forwarding slip in with the postal service so any mail from the BMV will go to your real address

Hecubus,
that's why you get a bill with your name on it sent to the address w/out smog laws, call your cable or cell phone co. and tell them to change your billing address to the address where there are no smog laws. so then your friend or relative that lives at that address gets the new bill with your name on it, gives it to you and you go to the local BMV and say "I just moved to this address (show them the bill) and need to register my car." That bill is your proof of residency. Now you just put a notice in with the local post office to get your mail from the BMV forwarded to your real address and call back your cable or cell phone co. and get your billing address changed back.
You may have to get a new license for that address as well but it's a small price to pay compared to paying for testing and making your car legal
