Buying a 1987

Hi there.

There are two things I fell in fell in love with (aside from the lovely American people of course) when I lived in the US (New Hampshire), American Beer and 80s Muscle Cars 💁

That said, I'm about to pull the trigger on this sucker: https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1283520

The seller doesn't have much info (He doesn't know what a Vin is being English and all) so can any of you Third Gen boffins glean me some info from these photos?
So far I'd say it's the Anemic carbed 305 though it looks to have some upgrades.
oing to see it next week but wanted to get a head start.

Let me know and yes I know it's orange!

Cheers.
Josh

Re: Buying a 1987

It looks to have had a lot of parts changed (non OEM) but if it’s a solid, rust free car that’s all intact and the price is reasonable, go for it. I imagine there aren’t too many in the UK.

Unless there were differences for export models, it looks to be a regular Z28, but not an IROC-Z. The telltale is the lack of fog lights and the emblem on the dash would say “Iroc-z” underneath Z28 if it were a Z28. The wheels are also Z28 wheels, not IROC wheels (although that isn’t a good indicator because they are easily changed, but in this case, probably are the original Z28 wheels). In any case, Z28’s are great too and that’s wouldn’t deter me.

Not that I'm looking for the "hey look at me" aspect of the color, the car was orange when I got it and I'll admit it took a little while to come to appreciating it.

When I drive it in today's sea of boring silver, black, and white cars it does stand out in the crowd, that's for sure.

It takes a car as good looking as ours are to really do the color justice

Me too! The paint was wrecked on this car anyway - sat outside for 11 years. The black is $8 a quart Rustoleum and then rattle can clear. And the graphics are custom vinyl. It's a driver and gets beat on daily so didn't want to worry about rock chips and parking dings. Total cost was like $600 and the Vinyl work was barter with a friend.

I think it looks excellent. The wheels make all the difference and that's why I had mine done to match my orange!

Thanks everyone and I look to be in venerable company when it comes to this colour! Nice looking whips all.

Thanks for the info re Z28 vs Iroc etc. Good to know. My step brother is looking it over for me and he is basically the most sensible person to have ever lived so he will be able to advise me well!

Not many in the UK, you're right and those that are seem to all be V6s. Our fuel is a lot more expensive than yours so...
This one will actually be coming to me in the South of France so you can all have a good laugh when you think of me annoying the French with this 'obnoxious' American car. Haha.

Cheers 🍻

If you really want it to sound sweet and annoy those Frenchies - get yourself a proper exhaust for it:
