Starting Issues

My stock 1982 Z28 Camaro 305 with a newly rebuilt Rochester Quadrajet carb and with a brand new distributor and spark plugs has good blue spark and has fresh 91 octane fuel in the system, working manual primary and secondary chokes, fully charged one year old battery, will crank and not start, any suggestions? The pickup coil reads the recommended ohms and everything looks correct.

Re: Starting Issues

If you can confirm fuel comes out of the carb, and you've got spark at the plugs, check timing. Maybe distributor 180 out, or base timing is off substantially.

Re: Starting Issues

I would start by spraying some starter fluid in the carb and see if it starts. That will at least tell you if you have a fuel problem or an ignition problem.

Re: Starting Issues

Thank you for your suggestions, i pulled all the spark plugs out and they were quite wet, the gap was .010 " out from what the book suggests, regapped and cleaned them, took the cat off because it was back firing through the carb, the cat was clogged up, its running fine now so we checked the timing and its accurate, also wired open the exhaust damper flap on the passenger side it caused too much back pressure.
