Found pin from engine.. don’t know where it goes?

I was working on my camaro which is a 89 v-6 and found this pin. Does anyone know what it goes to?

Found this pin and wondering if it goes anywhere to the engine of my Camaro? I have a 89 Camaro V6. Does anybody know where this pin might go? I know it’s not internal I remember it came out before but I can’t remember what to.

Re: Found pin from engine.. don’t know where it goes?

Disclaimer: I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WHATSOEVER about a 6-cyl in these cars. I think I saw one once but averted my eyes as quickly as possible, like less than a half second, so as not to become ... compromised.

That said, that doesn't look like an engine part. Not even one that would go in a 6-cyl. Looks more like a hood hinge part or the like.

Re: Found pin from engine.. don’t know where it goes?

Given the circumferential markings (it looks like it has been rotating), the evidence of dirty grease (not engine oil), and the zinc/cadmium plating on it, I would concur that it is not an internal engine part. It may be a linkage pin, pivot, or anchor pin for something external.

Come to think of it, that would be a dirty trick to pull on a buddy - Throw a random part on the bench right after he's finished assembling his engine. I wish I would have thought of that myself.

Had a college professor that taught our transmission class do this. Carried a TH350 anti-rattle clip in his lab coat. The student would just be heading to the dyno to test his freshly rebuilt trans., and he' slip that little clip on your work bench and say, "Hey, you missed a part". As that clip goes deep inside the trans, it was a very demoralizing thing to think you had forgotten.

Transmission: ...was received.
Re: Found pin from engine.. don’t know where it goes?

So my first question is, WHERE did you find it? Was it under the car, front or back, inside the car, etc. Next, without seeing more angles on it and knowing what size it is, it'll be hard to tell. Based on the head being bent out of shape, the grease around the stem part along with the slight bend, the fact that it appears to taper at the end, and that it appears to be soft metal, I'm going to say it hitched a ride in the engine and was like that when it hitched a ride.
