89 camaro 2.8L swap help
Is the 2.8L engine (V6) from a 89 camaro RS the same as the 89 2.8L (V6) firebird?
will the wiring from the camaro dashboard, gauges,etc...hook up straight to the firebird engine? without any modifications
Thanks

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
The Camaro might not have the VSS on the transmission - I'm not sure one way or the other. But, the 'Bird probably does.
I don't know about the interior wiring, but the ECM to engine should be the same.
What are you trying to do?

Re: 89 camaro 2.8L swap help
well....I got a 89 camaro RS (originally a 2.8)...the engine on it is a very old caburated 305...i have been having a lot of problem with that engine...so i found a 89 firebird for sale (2.8 engine) kind of cheap...and i though about swaping the engine to the RS....i just love the RS body style but was wonderig if the wirirng from the camaro will go right into the firebird engine

The wiring on the 2.8 vehicle that goes to the 2.8 should transfer over to the Camaro.
Re: 89 camaro 2.8L swap help
would the wiring from the gages, dashboard, cruise control conect right into the firebird engine without any of the wires changed?
What about fuel lines? and everything else

Basically there are no engine/transmission/drive train/fuel system differences between Camaro and Firebird. Beauty is only skin deep (and I personally think 'Birds are the uglier of the two).
Get inside the car, details such as instrument cluster, disappearing headlights, etc., different story.
What really needs to be answered is what was done to the car to put the 305 in. But, since you have a donor car, everything you need should be available - what's unknown we cannot possibly answer, because we can't see the car over the internet.

the 305 was installed in a really bad way...1 of the 2 fuel lines clogged and its only running with 1...its getting hard to start (got to pump the gas a lot to get it to start) and the V8 since its old...its not that fast
the gages are not connected to the old 305 because its old and the wiring does not connect...so my best choice is really to go with the donor car...
just wanna make sure wiring will fit on that 1

There is no particular reason the gauges wouldn't connect to a 305, regardless of its age.
Pumping several times to get it started sounds like a choke problem, not an engine problem.
Power is probably tuning, you can be reasonably certain the 2.8 would have less power (certainly less power potential).
