Cleaning and/ or replacing MAF sensor
Cleaning and/ or replacing MAF sensor
Constantly getting a code 36 on my 89 TPI Iroc (MAF issue). Checked voltage to MAF, and replaced both burn-in and power relays. When SES light pops on, it’s immediately on start-up once I clear it, never while driving. I bought a new MAF but the one on the car has a clamp which I’m not sure how to remove, and I was told the clamp can’t be replaced. How do I remove it to try cleaning first from the filter box? Are these symptoms indication the MAF itself is done for?
Any help would be appreciated 🙂

Re: Cleaning and/ or replacing MAF sensor
Is this on a Firebird? Those MAFs are clamped to the short section of intake duct from the air filter housing, and are not intended to be removed. It can be removed carefully and re-used, or can be replaced with a type KF or light V-band clamp if you can find the proper size.
As for the error code, a 36 is for a burn-off circuit failure, and not (necessarily) for a failed MAf sensor itself. In addition to the power and burn-off relays, there is wiring and connectors involved, as well as some system timing depending on other components.
It would help to know what year and make the car is.

Those clamps can be opened up and reused if you are careful. Slide a pick in the crimped area to expand it then push it around to unlatch it from the little tabs.
Or try this, think it's the right one.
