Car: 1988 GTA Trans am 1 owner since new
Engine: 383 built
Transmission: 1995 camaro t56 6 speed
Axle/Gears: 3.24 posi 9 bolt
383 sbc best engine break in

I have a new diy engine rebuild
I have a roller cam so the whole flat tappet thing doesn't apply
how long do I run the car first start
I just have 10w30 oil in it now just cheap stuff
I can only seem yo get info on the flat tappet stuff
does anyone know how to

Warm up to op temp, purge coolant system, check for leaks. Let cool, double check bolt torques on accessories, headers, intake manifold etc

then drive it. Tune it at the same time, do light throttle pulls to medium rpm and let engine brake. If tune is good, give it medium throttle to higher rpms and let it coast down, developing vacuum. All seem good then go wot full way through.

I just let it idel to warm up
I don't have to rev it like crazy for 20mins that's for flat tappet right
I have a roller cam

Right. Rollers dont need special break in. You can free rev it some to see how the engine sounds and responds. Make sure timing is set and all cylinders are firing. Check for leaks etc. all the basics before taking out on the road and running it in. Engines need some load to break in properly. No need to baby them for hundreds or thousands of miles lol
