timing?

How do you set the base timing on a 91 Z-28, The chiltons says to disconnect a beige and black wire? I just timed it with everything hooked up. Will this work or not?

No.

Unhooking that wire lets you set the base timing. Kinda like unhooking the vacuum line on a vacuum advanced distributor.

Setting the base timing with that wire plugged in will only tell the computer to change the timing so it stays the same to the computer. Example; If you set it to 6* BTDC, then the computer will just retard it 6 degrees back to 0* degrees BTDC.

Unhook it and do it again. Just don't forget to hook it back up when you are done.

Just one wire?

Is it the wire that goes into the harness in the back of the distributor. Do you unhook just the one wire or the whole harness?

I'm not 100% sure on a Z, 'cause I have an RS. But the one in my car is under the hood, on the passanger side, right by the blower motor.

It's sticking out of a black wire loom. It's a two part clip that you just pull apart. Mine's also brown w/black chaser on it.
