Um, have to ask... WHY are they wet? The carpet is not making it wet, water is coming from somewhere. Do you have a heater core leaking, or? Fix the leak and let the carpet dry, then fix the rust issue. Or destroy your carpet, I dunno.

Your water leak situation isn't so flawless. It'll continue to rust if you don't fix that.

Re: 88 gta carpet issue

Same way you'd find a leak in anything exposed to the weather.

By pouring water all over the car and looking around and finding where it comes in.

You'll probably find it's the T-top rubber, like most all cars that have them.

See page 14, assuming it's from the t-tops. Best method is to wait for it to rain hard, sit inside the car, and look for where the water's coming in. Remove trim pieces if you need a better look. You can also sit inside the car and have a helper spray the car with a water hose, but I find this isn't as good of a test as none of these cars are 100% waterproof, and it's easy to force water in with hose to a spot that would not normally leak under hard rain.

Re: 88 gta carpet issue

Of all the leaky T-tops i have came across, they always seemed to soak the rear seats/floor/sail panel area. If this is where your water seems to be on your floor, I would check as the others have suggested. If the water is indeed in the front like I thought you had meant, I would definitely check the heater core under your dash. When these leak the water goes straight down in the area I though you were describing, and it is easy enough to get to and check. Wet front floors is a very common tell tale sign, especially on the passenger side. Hope this helped.
