Anybody NOT have carpet in their car?
I was getting ready to do the interior of my GTA project and I'm wondering if there are any other things to put on the floor besides carpet. I know some 9C1's have that rubber floor instead of carpet but...who? how? where? Help. I just think that carpet gets so darn cruddy looking after a while. With rubber I don't have to worry about spills and mud and snow and bodily fluids getting under the carpet and permanently stinkifying the car. The car is going to a fair weather cruiser anyway so I'm not too worried about carpet being warmer in the winter. Post picks if you have something original.

I've yet to see a 3rd gen without carpet. But lately I've heard that they do exist. Wouldn't mind a rubber floor in my 83 Z either. After so many years carpet fades and looks nasty. Won't have to worry about fading or vacuum with rubber.

My wife would probably like the Pergo floor in the GTA. The more I think about, the more I like the rubber floor idea. I've seen 9c1's (Caprice cop cars) with them. I am going to research this, there has to be a way to do it. I also think the Lotus Elise (not imported to the US) has no carpet either. I think the cops do it in case anyone boots or bleeds in the car. The Elise is probably a weight savings issue being the thing has the same engine as a Singer sewing machine. Any leads or interior gurus out there?

OK, maybe it's not a great idea. But look at how little of your carpet you actually see anyway. With all the seats, console, and floor mats, you see about 2 square feet of carpet anyway. I just figured rubber mat would last for ever and never smell.

I don't know what you're looking for, removeable or not, but I've never heard anything like that exhisting for the camaro. The only thing I could suggest is looking into spray on bedliners and see if that peaks your interest, otherwise it'd probably end up being something totally custom.
I'm certain you could mold one if you're good at that sort of thing, but it'd be very involved. AFAIK rubber has to be formed in a mold, so the easiest way I can think of, is to buy some car wax, wax your entire interior (with the seats, carpet, etc. removed), then lay down fiberglass on the whole thing in the shape you want your rubber mold. The fiberglass shouldn't bond to the wax. Then you'd have to create a mold using that I think. You'd have to do it in sections probably or you'd never get the template out of the car, unless you had money for a spare floorpan from a junkyard or something. Mix and poor the rubber, and you'd be set.
Anything's possible with money.

There's a stray in my neighborhood that keeps tearing apart my garbage, I'd like to start with that one.
MY GTA is totally bare on the inside. No seats, carpet, trim, headliner, it's down to the sheetmetal all around. So I have basically tablau rasa to do what I want. For most of the spring it's only going to have the driver seat bolted in and nothing else (while I get all the mechanical stuff right). I'll be nice and light without all that extra stuff.

. Nothing like a hard wood floor car. Just take the carpeting out and clean up the metal. It'll look great. (You could just throw some nice floor mats in there if you don't want crap to slide around.)
Otherwise, use some truck bed liner, they sell kits for under $100 at regular auto parts stores.
Another option would be to use daimond-plate patterned aluminum (or whatever that stuff is called that is popular on trucks) on the parts of your floor where your feet would rest. I'm picturing 2 small rectangles of it in the back, and 4 rectangles/squares of it in the front - one on the part that is parallel to the ground, and one on the angled part. This idea could be used with the truck bed liner or with rubber or with carpet, or with any other crazy idea you could come up with (EXCEPT TILING!!).
If you've got a good idea for "rubberizing" the floor, go for it and let us see some pics.

You could....
Order some of the rubber that you lay in the back of truck bed liners thats really floppy and take out your interior and lay it down on it and then where it sticks up at take HITHERE box cutter and cut the spots out for all of the bolts and cables etc etc and then lay it down snug and firm and then put your interior back in but just leave out the carpet

well, HITHERE had HITHERE 71 nova as HITHERE project car HITHERE was buildin with HITHERE friend. we wanted to cut out HITHERE majority of the roof, keeping frame intact and install plexiglass. pull out the front and rear bench, put in about 3 inches of sand and some lawnchairs bolted down.... be at the beach all year round!!!
