no power above 4500

I used to be able to rev my engine to about 6000 and then shift and now as soon as i rev it too 4500 it seems like it is out of power and wont pull any farther.
I have all the stuff in my sig, It all worked fine and then one day it just started to do this.

I think it is something in the distributor but i have no clue, but i dont know if it is my fuel pump, it is still the original one.

The weird part is that as soon as it shifts it has power again until 4500 again. so i think it is the spark breaking up at high rpm.

Any help would be grateful because i am confused and want my power back thank you

Either fuel filter or something in the ignition breaking down. I'd change the fuel filter first.

Make sure your choke is opening all the way. The QJet has a secondary lockout that is tied to the choke and prevents the secondary throttles from opening until the choke is FULLY off. If the power wire to the choke has come off, is not supplying a full 12V, the choke element is bad or the linkage is binding you won't get the secondaries to open. It will nose-dive pretty bad over 4000 if this is the case.

Last year my car started doing that.. it was misfiring too. I replaced the entire ignition system with msd components and you would not believe the difference. I easily had another 1000 rpms, and it revved much quicker. It may not have been making much more power, but it sounded healthier.

Weak valve springs can cause that too, if you have floated the valves too many times.

all too easy

So it seems i am just a putts and it was something that i had done .
As the weather got colder the car became harder to start so i turned the choke up a little on my Q-jet. and by doing that it stopped it from comming all the way off and allowing the secondaries to open. So it was something easy.

But now , wow does that thing respond like it used to. I fixed it and left my house with it pegged and reved it up to 6250on the stock bottom end and when it shifted man did it ever chirp the tires . Thanks for all your help guys
