New Owner in France

Hi all.

I have recently purchased a 1982 Camaro over here in France (yes we like cheese. Surrender not so much. One word: Verdun).
Anyway, I'm not going to engine swap it just yet and wanted to see what I could get out of the 5.0.

Nothing mad, just a nice street cruiser to beat the ricers and Renault Sport crowd.

It's a carburetted 5.0.

Many thanks! Stay well.
JB

Engine bay. If I'm not mistaken there was a Euro V8 spec!?

congrats on buying that z28 If it is z28-E version,it came with non-CCC carb and no catalytic converter, but an engine oil cooler was added-rated for 165 HP instead of 145 US rating.LG4 is responsive to the usual SBC "hot rod"tricks and getting around 220-230 HP is very easy without having to do anything to the heads or pistons over 300hp can be had using the stock shortblock, but at that point might as well swap in a mild 350 or 383 for some tire-smoking moderate RPM performance. I think screaming high RPM is wrong characteristic for these cars Speaking of WW1,US army's first tank was almost direct replica of the French FT17.

Re: New Owner in France

Thanks for the info! Great to know that the usual tricks are acceptable. I'm not looking for crazy numbers. That will come with the eventual LS swap! If you have any advice on the right brands for the parts that'd be much appreciated too.

Intake.
Heads.
Exhaust.
Cam.
Brakes.
Suspension.

Not necessarily in that order!

Good knowledge on the tank! I didn't know that but looking into it, it seems the FT17 was the first tank to contain its armament in a fully rotating turret assembly. Pretty cool and from Renault!

Stay well all and thanks again.

Here is a sales brochure for the Z28 E!
It's in French but you get the idea perhaps?

Re: New Owner in France

Welcome Aboard! When I initially read the thread title I thought I had missed some major news story, and was thinking that it was about time there was a new owner in France. It seems to be a good idea to change those on occasion. That's another little trick we in the U.S. learned from the French a couple hundred years ago.

I hope you are in good standing with the UPS and DHL crowd. I've heard from various other members in Europe that in addition to the vehicle age, parts availability is even more of a challenge on the continent. If the vehicle still has the SPID label in the rear spare tire compartment or center console lid, it would be interesting to see what RPOs were included with that E model. If you post a photo of that label, edit or block out the VIN for security reasons.

I am thinking that the rear axle ratio options were fairly limited in the early years of the run, and am curious about yours. That may be a performance mod to be considered and one that might suit an eventual LS engine just as well.

I never knew about E-models. Only U.S. & Canadian...

Haha! I agree that the odd revolution isn't all that bad and we're happy to have helped get rid of those pesky Brits (they're actually really nice to be fair).

Unfortunately, the vendor withdrew the car on the very day i was due to go and see it so I am still third genless 😩

Time will provide as it always does and great to have started the ball rolling with your good selves.

Stay well all.
Merci.
