Fuel LInes

Not sure if posting into right area. 1983 Z28 with a 87 5.0 TPI converted to speed density system. My camaro has sat for several years now and I never got around to doing anything with fuel left in the tank. Realizing that this has gone to varnish or goo, I know I need to clean everything out really good. The tank has been lined due to rust, so I plan on replacing the tank anyways. I was thinking about replacing the fuel lines with stainless steel ones since then I would never has to mess with them. I came across a website that sells the plastic fuel lines, fittings and adapters. I was wondering if anyone has replaced their old steel lines with the modern plastic DOT tubing? Considering this since preformed stainless lines are a bit pricey. Thanks for any input on this.

Re: Fuel LInes

I know that the manufacture'rs use them now. But I would feel safer with a metal line. I know, call me old fashioned. How about the nickle/ copper lines like we use on brakes now here in the northeast. They come in all sizes and are definitely easier to bend than steel or stainless. And standard flares are used.

Re: Fuel LInes

I thought about the copper nickel tubing for fuel lines. But I read an article that copper reacts with fuel and over time causes the fuel to thicken. I like the idea of the new plastic but adapters and fittings are few and hard to come by for retro-fitting into an older vehicle.
