Where is the ECM located?

1984 Trans AM, 305 v8. My T/A is a u.s. build car for the Canadian market. Back in those years, our pollution laws on motor vehicles was much less restrictive. It has a cat. If this car had an ecm, which I think it does not, where would it be located?

P/S under the dashboard. Wiring goes through behind the kick panel on that side. If your qjet has an electronic plug in the front p/s corner of it then you're guaranteed to still have a computer. I don't believe a single thirdgen left the factory without a ecm.

Re: Where is the ECM located?

There is no electronic plug on the carb at the passenger side. car would have been designated for "EXPORT" like the 1972 Buick GS I recently sold afer 21 years of owner ship. See photo

Re: Where is the ECM located?

For sure that isn't running an ecm then. The vacuum advance wouldn't be there either. Whether there's one under the dash or not is another thing but your engine certainly isn't using one.

Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Where is the ECM located?

Yup, no ECM in an export. No sensors, misc solenoids, harness on the pass side, etc. either.

Re: Where is the ECM located?

I was in the process of removing the QJ to send it out for rebuild. I was taking reminder pictures to reinstall everything at carb install time.
