What can one tell from the numbers on the ECU ?

Hi I found a guy selling a Used Chevy V8, including full TPI, engine wiring harness, ECU , exhaust manifolds, rotating accessories, he states is an L98.

For my 1989 IROC Z Vert, 305 LB9/AT I am considering this used engine.

It is from a 1991 Corvette (has Vette exhaust manifolds) and the following on the ECU. I am waiting to hear if it is from an AT car.

Here are the numbers off of the ECU
Serv. No. 01227727
869811 M110000047
16159811

Thanks!

What cylinder head, engine block numbers should I ask he to report on? (It is over a thousand miles from my location).

The cylinder heads should be 113 designating them as the Corvette factory aluminum heads as opposed to the 083 cast iron heads that came on the F body. I can't remember the exact location but my L98 has "L98" on the top rear driver side block area which I found looking down from the oil pressure sender to the right IIRC...hope this info helps.

letters on the computer chip will tell if from automatic or manual transmission.
why does it matter if it’s from a zf or 700r4 ?

Well, I do not know if it matters if it's from a 700R4 or ZF, but I thought it might, in the idle speed, advance curve, AF Ratio, etc. So your saying it does not matter?

This is the L98 What's it worth? Supposedly 91,000 miles. I'd probably pull the heads, inspect it and reseal it, at the least.

I don't see any trans fluid cooler lines on it. Of course, absence of proof is not the same as proof of absence.

As far as what it's worth, I have no clue. Looks absolutely complete though, and in pretty decent shape. Not sure what the demand is for such things but the supply is rather constrained. Might be a couple of $k, as relatively uncommon as such a thing is becoming these days.

i would get the ecm is included and resell
but as far as your tuning goes can easily use your tpi maf 1227165 ecm and arap tune for Automatic or apyp for manual transmission. Just disable vats and change fan switch type in the tune no biggie. Like sofa said I’d guess worth 1-2k max

Re: What can one tell from the numbers on the ECU ?

Thanks for the response folks! So, I'm still waiting on the seller to advise if the crankshaft has a pilot bearing (ZF Trans) . But would this be a relatively easy replacement /upgrade engine? Use the intact fuel injectors, knock sensors, and PROM? Mike

Re: What can one tell from the numbers on the ECU ?

I would replace injectors probably multecs. Use the intake base from c4 and your runners and plenum.
reprogram your prom. The oil pan and oil pump pickup needs to be changed.
add a hole for accessories drive on passenger head and your set.
if staying tpi maf keep
your ks or verify part number for 89 Vette as well as esc. Rockauto lists part numbers compare to your lb9 listing.
