Need to replace lost keys.
Need to replace lost keys.
I lost my keys, ignition and door, so need to replace them. All I need is the key code and I was going to buy a blank from ebay and get it cut myself. I took my title to two different dealers and they said just to give me that information it would be over 100 dollars. So my question is, how else can I find my key code? I've been looking online and seen some cars key code is stamped on the ignition cylinder somehwere, is that true for our cars also? And if it is, what about the key code for the door key? Would that be stamped somehwere on the lock cylinder?

You should rekey the whole car. To do steering column get a older new tumbler non vats 85-early 88.
get these resistors to figure out the passkey resistance at bottom of steering column.

Re: Need to replace lost keys.
Pull the ignition cylinder and it'll have the key code stamped in it. The door locks are a little harder. Your locksmith can tear the cylinder apart and decode the tumblers and cut you a key. It has to be the door lock cylinder, ttop and trunk glove box locks have fewer tumblers. Of course this assumes your locksmith has the Briggs and Stratton covers to reassemble your lock cylinder. As the service covers have tabs to bend back in place and the old covers are generally pried off and destroyed to remove the tumblers.
If you request an invoice copy from GM heritage dept it might have the key codes on it. Maybe...

Doesn't matter on thirdgens. Just gotta tear the column down far enough to get at the torx bolt that retains the lock cylinder and it'll pull out.
