Locks possibly seized
Locks possibly seized
I have an 83 firebird that, according to the previous owner, sat for 10 years while the first owner had it. I don’t ever lock the car because the electric buttons work but the key doesn’t for any of the locks. The key will go in but wont turn. There is also a aftermarket hatch release that very well may be out of a later model. This hasn’t really been a problem because there is a kill switch that would make it almost impossible to steal, but I go off to college later this week and I would like to make sure my radio and other belongings are safe. I’m wondering if anyone has had the same experience and if there is an alternative I should try before getting all new locks.

There are many sauces you can use for locks. I would avoid penetrating oils and anything not made for locks because they gum up eventually. I had success with a quick shot of dry graphite and then I worked the key in and out several times before it started turning. My driver's lock is still a little touchy; I have to pull it out a tiny bit before it turns, so you might just need to use the correct lube and finesse it a bit.
However, if truly none of the door locks, lock behind the license plate, and rear storage lock turn with the key, you might have the wrong key.
