So I recently got ahold of a 1984 Camaro with the 2.8l V6, and one of the first things I’m doing is changing all of the drive belts. I also got ahold of a Haynes manual for reference.
I haven’t been able to find a diagram, but as I understand it from the manual there should be 4 belts (rear to front of crank):
Crank, water pump, ac, crank (installed)
Crank, power steering, water pump, crank (installed)
Crank, water pump, alt, crank (missing)
Crank, water pump, alt, smog, crank (installed)
There should be four belts total, but when I check mine there’s only three belts and the front grooves on the crank/water pump are empty. I’m not sure if this was an intentional choice by the prior owner or if this was a mistake.
The Haynes manual also shows two grooves on the alternator, but mine only has one. Since I seemingly can’t run two belts through the alt, is there a different layout that would work in this case or am I just missing something?
Alt with one groove? Belt from alt, smog pump, crank, water pump, back to alt
Empty grooves on crank and water pump
Re: Help with V Belt Layout for 1984 Camaro 2.8L V6
Someone changed the alternator without swapping the correct pulley on to it. The dual belt pulley is not common. My 2.8 TBI S10 had v-belts and the same looking belt setup. I
